Nick G Tarlson is the founder of Tarlson & Associates. Nick served in the regulated industries consulting division of Ernst & Whinney for eight years and as a Chief Financial Officer in the energy and construction industries for two years before starting the firm. He serves on a number of state and local committees of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and other, related professional associations, in taxation, estate and probate, personal and estate planning, charitable giving and litigation support topic areas, and recently published an article on the use of donor advised funds (a charitable giving vehicle) in the Journal of Accountancy, the national magazine of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Tarlson also serves as a forensic accounting expert in a variety of litigation support contexts, including economic damages, business valuation, bankruptcy, probate, trust, and marital dissolution cases, on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, and has often served as a Section 730 neutral expert, appointed by the court to serve both parties. I hold the specialized accounting credentials of CPA-ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) and CPA-CFF (Certified in Financial Forensics).
Mr. Tarlson has been teaching in the graduate schools of accounting, taxation and finance at Golden Gate University for nearly twenty years, including several years teaching the Business Valuation course in the Graduate Accounting School. He is currently teaching the Income Tax Planning course in the Masters of Financial Planning program.
He is a California Probate Referee, where he is appointed by the California Superior Court to value estate assets in connection with their probate and distribution. He has extensive experience in a variety of property valuation contexts, including reporting on discounts for owners of fractional interests in real or personal property.
Mauna Arnzen is an Enrolled Agent and Manager of Tarlson & Associate’s Tax Practice. She received her Bachelor of Science from Seattle University and has been with the firm for 17 years.
George Tarlson is an Enrolled Agent and Associate with responsibility for periodic accounting for several of our clients. He also assists with analytical work in our forensic accounting area. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from University of California, Santa Cruz and has been active with the firm for 10 years.
Andrew Vavuris is an Associate with primary responsibility for accounting and tax matters for several of our largest clients.
Jan Van Devere is our Office Manager with responsibility for all of our office operations, accounting for a number of our clients, and works with several government agencies in entity registration and compliance matters.
